Our Mission
At North Star Counseling and Wellness, there are 3 pillars that guide our work to be the Northstar you are looking for.
First, the stars are an analogy we use to describe the expansive possibilities of the human brain. We don’t just want to treat a symptom and send you on your way. We believe the brain is capable of so much more than that. We approach all things with an expansion mindset of helping you experience and reach possibilities you never thought was possible before.
Second, we treat both the mind and the body. By taking an integrated approach, we are able to remove blocks through creating movement in your nervous system, helping you find relief, high performance, create better habits, and reach your goals.
Third, we put training clinicians as a top priority. When working with any of our clinicians, you'll be working with someone who is continuously learning the most-up-to-date and effective models.
Author of the Body Keeps Score, Bessel Van de Kolk, teaches that the most effective forms of therapy include, but are not limited to:
- Various forms of trauma processing (Brainspotting, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and more). With a focus on somatic bottom-up approaches.
- Neurofeedback and biofeedback (SSP and Heartmath)
- Theater
- Meditation/Mindfulness
- Rhythm, movement, play, and Yoga
- Animal therapy
We strive to offer all of these services. Healing is not just a one type fits all.
How to get started with your healing journey
The first step is to schedule a complimentary 15 minute consultation to discuss your needs and get to know your potential new partner in healing. This is your opportunity to ask them questions to you feel comfortable moving forward. It is an investment in yourself.
You can schedule a consultation in one of three ways :
- Click the call or text us at 817-961-1600
- Click on the the schedule a consultation through our online portal.
- Or email us at contact@northstarcw.com

Once you decided that your clinician may be a good fit for you....
The second step is to schedule a 90 minute assessment/initial session. At this session you will:
- Establish goals that we can keep track of progress.
- Start developing a therapeutic relationship with your clinician.
- Receive recommendations and education on other services that will help you reach your goals as quickly as possible.
- Receive recommendations on frequency and timing of sessions, and will start the process towards change.
We are looking for people who are ready to make change happen in their lives.
Important Questions
Do you accept Insurance?
We are considered an Out of Network Practice. This allows you to direct your own treatment and allows more time to be spent in direct interaction with clients, rather than billing and answering to insurance companies. You are welcome to request reimbursement from your insurance carrier directly; information and Super Bills can be provided to assist in your appeal will be provided at your request. We also accept HSA payments.
Disclosure: Your rights and protections against surprise medical bills and your right to receive a good faith estimate of expected charges.
What should I do in an Emergency?
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a United States-based suicide prevention network of over 160 crisis centers that provides 24/7 service via a toll-free hotline with the number 1-800-273-8255. It is available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
Because our counselors are usually busy with clients and we are not a crisis agency, if there is an urgent crisis, it is best for you to call the hotline or get yourself to the nearest emergency room.
Do you offer Telehealth therapy?
Yes! We know that having accessible counseling in the comfort of your own home is important. All of our clinicains are able to offer you Telehealth services. Most of our clinicians are licensed in the State of Texas. We do serve other states including Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma by a limited number of clinicians.
For those that want in person, North Star Counseling and Wellness is conveniently located just North of the DFW airport on North Main Street in Grapevine, TX.

What is the cancellation policy?
All appointments must be cancelled 24hours in advance or you will still be responsible for the appointment fee. Emergency situations do occasionally arise, and this failed appointment fee may be waived; however, because there is often a wait for appointment times, it is important for those that need appointments that we maintain this policy. Every effort will be made to respect your time to the same degree that has been requested of you.

If you are feeling ill and would like to switch to a telehealth appointment, that option is always available to you. Please text or email your counselor directly to make that switch.
What is the inclement weather / illness policy?
Please feel free to text or email your counselor directly to switch any appointment to a telehealth meeting. We want you to always be safe driving, so do not hesitate to take advantage of videoconferencing and stay cozy at home. If your counselors cannot drive safely or needs to switch to a telehealth meeting, we will let you know as early as possible. We ask that if any time you are experiencing a fever that you switch to a telehealth appointment. For symptoms such as a cough or sneezing, we ask that you switch to telehealth or wear a mask to your appointment.
If you are unable to do a telehealth session, options for rescheduling will be discussed with your clinician.
What are the limits of confidentiality?
Your confidentiality is always a priority in this process. Your identity, personal information, and the topics you discuss will be protected with the highest standards available. Without your written permission, information about you shall not be shared. Even after written permission is granted, it may be revoked at any time. If there is concern of danger or harm to yourself and/or others, we are legally required to report this information to the authorities to ensure the safety of all. In the case that you are threatening harm to yourself, we may be obliged to contact loved ones to provide protection and/or seek more intensive treatment. We may also be required to take protective actions if it is believed that you are threatening harm to another. These actions may include notifying the potential victim, contacting police, or more intensive treatment. We are obliged by law to report any suspicion or allegation of abuse or neglect of a child, elderly or disabled person.

Email should primarily be used for appointment re-scheduling and is not the media for sensitive, therapeutic material. If you choose to communicate by email at some point in our work together, please be aware that email is not completely confidential. All emails are retained in the logs of the internet service providers from which it is sent and received. While under normal circumstances these logs are not viewed, they are, in theory, available to be read by the system administrator(s) of the internet service provider. If more than ten minutes per week is spent reading and responding to your emails, we reserve the right to bill this time on a prorated basis.

While our counselors do everything in our power to maintain your confidentiality, it is important to recognize that there may be a limit to confidentiality when using telehealth technology, depending on your location and connection. You are responsible for ensuring privacy in your space. We recommend using headphones or earbuds as one privacy protection.
